Al-Qadir Trust case: ex PM Imran Khan nabbed for 'corruption of billions'
On December 26, 2019, just weeks after his cabinet made a decision regarding a real estate developer who later became the university's donor, former prime minister Imran Khan established a trust for the Al-Qadir University Project.
The Imran Khan cabinet took up the issue of Accounts Freezing Orders (AFOs) and Repatriation of Funds to Pakistan by the National Crime Agency (NCA) in the real estate tycoon and family case three weeks before the trust was registered on December 2, 2019.
The real estate tycoon's investigation was closed by the National Crime Agency in England, and approximately 140 million pounds were returned to Pakistan from his account abroad.
However, the money ended up in the Supreme Court's account at the National Bank of Pakistan, which is interesting. Due to the fact that the tycoon had also agreed to pay Rs460 billion to the Supreme Court as a penalty in a case involving Karachi real estate, the question of whether the money was to be transferred to a government account or deposited with the Supreme Court account was brought up.
After the trust deed was registered in the Islamabad Sub-Registrar Office the very next month, the real estate developer purchased approximately 460 kanals of land in Jhelum and transferred the land to Zulfi Bukhari. At the time, the land's value was set at Rs243 million for the purposes of stamp duty.
Zulfi Bukhari transferred this land in the trust's name on January 22, 2021, following the establishment of the trust. This 458-kanal piece of land belongs to Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari, Al-Qadir's custodian, and is in Mouza Bakrala, Sohawa tehsil, Jhelum district.
An agreement that was signed with Bushra Bibi on March 24, 2021, while Khan was in charge of the Prime Minister's Office, acknowledged this land donation as well as other donations made by the real estate, such as infrastructure and other provisions.
In addition, the real estate developer stated in the agreement that he will bear all costs associated with the proposed Al-Qadir University's establishment and operation, as well as that it will contribute funds or money to the trust for the Al-Qadir Project's establishment and operation. Al-Qadir Trust received donations totaling Rs180 million between January and December 2021.
The trust made a total of millions of rupees between July 2020 and June 2021, but only spent about Rs8.58 million, including salaries for staff and workers.
The Grab had as of late changed over its investigation into an examination against Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, and others for the supposed addition of many kanals of land for the sake of Al-Qadir College Trust from a land designer as a trade-off for the PTI government's approval to the last option, including around Rs50 billion. The NAB, which was previously conducting an investigation into Imran Khan and others' alleged misuse of authority, financial gains, and criminal breach of trust in the recovery of crime proceeds received from the UK and the illegal sealing of its records, had discovered sufficient evidence to turn the inquiry into an investigation.
The NAB typically follows three steps before filing a reference in corruption cases. The initial step is grievance check. A second step is an order for an inquiry if the complaint is confirmed. The inquiry is turned into an investigation at this point if sufficient evidence is found to allow for further investigation. Otherwise, the investigation is over.
At the examination stage, a charged is straightforwardly tested and, whenever required, might in fact be captured for addressing to at long last finish up regardless of whether the case merits going after in court.
