The southeast asian nation of vietnam is currently witnessing a resurgence of infections fueled by the delta variant cases with over 11 000 new cases and 737 covert related deaths in 24 hours. Vietnam reported its highest daily death toll on sunday the majority of the cases were reported in ho chi minh city and neighboring bing duon province the latest surge in cases have prompted the authorities to impose a strict lockdown in the region the vietnamese government on friday imposed another 14 days of lockdown in ho chi minh city with tight restrictions starting from this week.



Under the new measures people in high-risk areas cannot leave their homes unless there is an absolute emergency the government has also called on the army to help deliver food and aid to households as it further tightens restrictions to limit movement meanwhile vietnam's plan to curb movement has triggered panic buying among the residents over the weekend supermarkets were packed with people queuing to stock up on food and necessities ahead of the lockdown order vietnam has recorded over 348,000 covid infections and more than 8,000 deaths with ho chi minh city accounting for more than half of the cases and 80 percent of the fatalities.
