According to experts the ban could have a devastating impact on the tourism industry of many african countries where british tourists are a key revenue generator the uk said on friday it would deem travelers to be unvaccinated if they had not received their vaccines from a short list of approved countries primarily in europe and north america that rule applies even to those who were vaccinated vaccinated with pfizer or astrazeneca jabs in some countries including india travelers even if they are vaccinated will face tougher testing rules along with a 10-day self-isolation from those places fully jabbed indians for example would not be considered vaccinated in the united kingdom and would have to undergo 10 days of quarantine to try and understand the new rules and the controversy around it let's go back to mandy clark now mandy what is the uk government's explanation for those discrepancies well that is the key question it really isn't forthcoming that why that the locally produced uh astrazeneca um jab in india is not recognized as um as a vaccine uh that is a question that has not been made clear uh the government.

They are saying they're using the best scientific advice um it is a question that certainly uh the indian counterpart is going to raise uh at the united nations to the uk it's really going to affect a lot of indian students who come to uk to study that's a long time to quarantine it's expensive the pcr tests uh to get almost an early release from quarantine so it's going to disproportionately affect a lot of those indian students and it doesn't seem um as of yet to understand the scientific explanation on why the locally produced astrazeneca is not deemed equal to the one produced here mandy thank you very much indeed.
